What Anne of Green Gables Taught Me

I hope all of you that adore Anne of Green Gables enjoy my list.:). If you have never seen the movies go to your nearest Blockbuster or library and watch them right away.

1. If ever a cute school boy named Gilbert Blythe calls you “carrots” in your one room school house, fear not. You will fall madly in love with him in a few years and bear his children.

2. Whatever you do, do not trust the lady on the side of the road. The ingredients she gives you will most certainly not dye your hair a beautiful raven black, but a yucky green instead!

3. Do not walk on top of a roof even if you are dared by Josie Pye. You will only end up falling to the ground and hurting your ankle. Diana Barry will have to help you walk back through the woods and the both of you will get freaked out by telling each other scary stories. She will go get help but you will faint because you are so scared.

4. Never ever mistake Homemade Currant Wine for Raspberry Cordial when inviting your bosom friend over for tea. Your bosom friend could get sick and her mother might get mad at you thinking you meant to give her the wine. You would then have to impress her by saving Minnie May’s life.

5. Don’t mix up Dolly the cow with Mrs. Rachel Lynde’s cow. You will have a heck of a time trying to chase down the wrong cow and you and your bosom friend will end up falling in the mud. And Gilbert Blythe and his father will see you! So obviously it isn’t good for anyone….

6. And for pity sakes, if you do end up chasing the cow in the mud, do not, I repeat do not wear a beautiful white dress. Mud doesn’t come out of beautiful white dresses very well.

7. Never ever bring a parcel to class. If you are a bad student who misbehaves, your teacher might make you throw it into the stove. There would be fireworks in the classroom and it would be pure chaos.

8. Do not waste your time with older men. Specifically, older rich men with a daughter named Emmeline. You will only end up disappointing the poor man and hurting his knee on a cold snowy night. You belong with Gilbert anyways….

9. In due time, you will be quite thankful we live in a world full of Octobers.

10. Lastly, throughout all your struggles, you will realize it’s not what the world holds for you, it’s what you bring to it.

Could Seth Rogen Be The One That Got Away?

I am still racking my brain on how I missed watching The Mindy Project. I mean, it is on after New Girl and I have been watching a lot of New Girl lately. Especially since I heard about that little something something between Nick and Jess. (The kiss of course!)

However, I did watch my first episode last Tuesday and needless to say, it did not disappoint. The writing is funny and playful and the show is so much fun to watch! I fell in love with all the characters and the way the stories just flow.

The name of the episode I got to watch says it all. It is entitled: The One That Got Away.

Sadly, we’ve all been there I think. Me included.

In this episode, Mindy, played by none other than Mindy Kaling, has a long lost friend, Sam, suddenly appear in her life again. Sam, played by Seth Rogen, is only in town for a very short time. He is in the army and has to go back to Afghanistan the following day. They go out to dinner, have a fabulous time, and go their separate ways.

Out of nowhere, Mindy realizes she is head over heels for him and goes to find him at the nearest tattoo parlor. After the third one, she finally finds him.
(Hmmm, perhaps I should go to the nearest tattoo parlor to find a man?). One thing leads to another and they end up seeing a Nora Ephron double feature together. (Definitely, my type of date.)

They eventually end up at Mindy’s apartment and Sam some how manages to fall out the window. I mean, don’t you hate it when that happens? Especially on a first date?
Mindy rushes him to the hospital where she is employed at, and gets him checked out.

Later on, she is called into surgery. When it is finally over with, there is no Sam to be found. But she does find a sweet little note from him telling her if he were to say goodbye, they would both be crying, which would not be good for anyone.

Sweet Sam also stated, “All these nothings have met more to me than so many somethings,” playfully quoting the Nora Ephron movie they saw together called You’ve Got Mail.

Sam seems like a good guy. Definitely would be the one that got away from Mindy….,

I will definitely be watching The Mindy Project again and I encourage anyone who is reading this blog to watch it as well.

Has anyone else seen this show? What do you think about it?

Hot, Hot, Hot, Hot Chocolate and Tear Jerkers

Happy Oscar Day everyone!! I’m so excited to watch the awards ceremony tonight. Really looking forward to it.

I wrote a blog entry not too long ago about The Polar Express. Even though it is a Christmas movie, I feel like it is more than appropriate now to share it with you all.

For one reason, it was nominated for an Oscar for the song Believe, sung by Josh Groban. Secondly, it does take place in the winter time and it is winter in this part of the world. And last, I watch Christmas movies all year long!

So it all works out!

Hope you enjoy!

You know the drill. You’re watching a really sad movie with all your friends or perhaps your family. All of a sudden, your eyes get droopy and heavy. You make sure not to look over at your friends because if they see you crying, it would be embarrassing. You keep thinking to yourself, I’m not going to cry, I’m not going to cry. Your fingers get all wet from wiping the salty tears away. You start sniffling. It’s happened. There’s no turning back. You’re flat out crying.

How many times has this happened to you? To be completely honest with you all, it doesn’t happen all that much to me. Well, ok. I guess I should come clean. It happens more than I’m letting on. Les Mis, My Girl, The Descendants, and of course, Steel Magnolias. These movies (and quite a few more) make me a weepy mess.

But there’s one movie in particular that I watch at Christmastime. And it gets me. Oh, it gets me everytime. This movie is The Polar Express. Now, I do realize this is a children’s movie and may not count as a tear jerker. But whenever it is on television, I do always find myself searching for the nearest kleenex because the tears can’t seem to stop running.

Discussion after discussion with friends and family has led me to believe that many many people have the same reaction. So clearly, I am not alone.

But have you ever wondered why it makes people (including me) so emotional? Why do the tears start flowing everytime?

Perhaps one theory is that the fun loving innocence we had as a child, seems to have disappeared. Or that we only wish we were young enough to hear that beautiful silver bell that only certain children can hear. Maybe it’s the mixture of the music and beautiful artistry.

At any rate, are there any movies that make you so sad that you need to reach for the nearest kleenex? As always, I can’t wait to hear!

A Winter Wonderland, a Snow Day, and Daria

So, my gut feeling was right. We had around 10 inches of snow and a day off work today! More snow to come tonight along with some ice possibly.

It’s been really nice staying home. I stayed up late and watched the tv show Girls on my iphone last night. I also read a little bit. I must admit, I have a slight addiction to Sophie Kinsella.

Also managed to find time to bake cookies I found on Pinterest called Meltaway Cookies. True to their name, they melt in your mouth. Yum!

Unfortunately, I haven’t watched much on the tube today with the exception of the news, due to the snow storm.

I did watch the tv show Daria though. Daria was a favorite of mine when I was younger. She never put up with her sister’s silly antics.

If only there were more snow days…

What have you been watching lately?

Snowy Days and Favorite Things

Looks like we are in for lots of snow here tomorrow in our little neck of the woods. And possible days off of work for some people. I have to admit, I get as giddy as a school girl waiting to hear if I have to be at work the next day. My eyes tend to be glued to the bottom of the tv screen everytime there is potential for a snow day.

Which leads me to ask you all a few questions. What movies do you prefer to watch on a snowy day? What are your snowy day foods of choice? Are you more of an outdoor person when it comes to winter or do you prefer staying indoors sipping your hot cocoa?

Can’t wait to hear your answers!
